- 1.Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- 2.In a large skillet, cook the ground pork and beef over medium heat until browned. Remove the excess fat.
- 3.Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook until the onion is translucent.
- 4.Stir in the grated potato, beef or chicken broth, dried thyme, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 5.Roll out one pie crust and line a 9-inch pie dish with it. Pour the meat mixture into the crust.
- 6.Cover the filling with the second pie crust. Seal the edges and cut a few slits on the top crust to allow steam to escape.
- 7.Brush the top crust with beaten egg for a golden finish.
- 8.Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
- 9.Allow the tourtière to cool for a few minutes before serving.
- 10.Slice and enjoy the delicious flavors of Canada!
lightbulb_outline Tips
- For a shortcut, you can use store-bought pie crust, but homemade crust is always a winner!
- Feel free to customize the spices to suit your taste. Some people like to add a pinch of nutmeg or allspice for extra flavor.
- Leftovers can be reheated in the oven or enjoyed cold the next day.
- This tourtière freezes well, so you can make a double batch and save some for later.
